the lighting is JUST FANTASTIC!
the face is so void, yet expressive... and audacious...
the musculature - convincing and threatening!
and the stump... the stump is depicted so powerfully... it does not, even for a second, become an attribute of a cripple... if anything, it is the most terrifying part of him... brought into focus, thus overruling even the sword, it becomes reminiscent of an elephant's leg... built to crush...
his towering, Neanderthal back grants the character even higher credibility...
the BEST part of this work, to me, is that alongside the character's palpable intimidating, brute force... his power that suggests a strong potential for tyranny... an overwhelming sense of being before a very just, fair leader washes over the observer... and amazing still is that if the observer concentrates a bit more... somehow, within that very barren mask of his unveils a glance of secret insecurity...
this image is so perfectly simple, considering the countless sides of this character's psyche that it depicts...
